About the Danube
Weaving through some of the most beloved countries across its continent, the Danube’s geographical resume includes the likes of Germany, Austria and Croatia to name just three.
The second largest river in Europe, 1770 miles of south-easterly flowing water has been beguiling travellers for decades. A blend of impressive nature and almost-peerless culture, this landmark location has been the muse for a titular waltz, played its part in World War Two, and hosts palaces, castles and museums that are a sight to behold.
Artistry has been well and truly sewn into the Danube’s DNA too. Renaissance art, the Danube School of landscape painters, 20th-century literature and Greek legends have all been inspired by the region’s extensive influence.
The Danube is also home to a richly diverse ecosystem. From the vantage point of your ship, you’ll have the perfect spot to see everything from pelicans, herons and cormorants to mighty and majestic creatures like wolves and black bears. Don’t forget about the eight national parks nestled here too, either.
It’s not just a must-see for tourists either. The Danube keeps people hydrated too – as a source of fresh drinking water, it’s been estimated that around 20 million people from the river’s surrounding countries make use of the H2O from it.
